Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan feels that newly appointed India coach Duncan Fletcher's "biggest challenge" will be to handle the media in a cricket crazy nation.

He replaces Gary Kirsten, who decided against renewing his three-year contract after leading India to the 2011 World Cup title and the number one spot in the Test rankings.

"The contract with Fletcher is for two years. He may not join the team in the West Indies as he has some prior commitments," Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary N Srinivasan told reporters in India before a BCCI statement later confirmed:

"Duncan Fletcher has been appointed coach of the Indian cricket team, for a period of two years. Eric Simons will continue as bowling coach.

"The cash incentive to the members of the World Cup winning Indian team has been increased from Rs. 1 crore per player to Rs. 2 crores per player."

Fletcher, 62, coached England from 1999 to 2007, regaining the Ashes in 2005, having previously coached Glamorgan. Since resigning as England coach following the 2007 World Cup, he has worked with South Africa and Hampshire.
